I stay in the middle of the crowd — dancing and shooting with the people.
Macchina di Santa Rosa — Viterbo
Every year on September 3rd the city of Viterbo celebrates the Transport of the Macchina di Santa Rosa, a monumental tower carried through the streets by the Facchini, a group of men who shoulder the structure during a night procession rooted in centuries of devotion.Working from within the crowd and close to the porters, my photographs focus on the human dimension of the ritual — the physical effort, the coordination and the shared energy that transform the city into a collective act of faith.
Faradda dei Candelieri — Sassari
Every year on August 14th the city of Sassari celebrates the Faradda dei Candelieri, an ancient procession where large wooden structures are carried through the streets by members of the historic guilds.Rather than observing from a distance, I work inside the movement of the festival, among the porters and the crowd. My aim is to capture the physical effort, the rhythm and the sense of community that give life to this centuries-old ritual.
